PARIS

Our bus ride through the south of France, on the way to Paris, is a beautiful trip. Some of us sleep while others are up to some tricks!

We stop at the Guedelon building site. We watch stone masons and artisans using similar materials and methods from the Middle Ages to construct a castle.

They show us how to take                    There's lots of work still to do.            With this device they can measurements the medieval                                                                              move things easily from one         way. It works!                                                                                                                                                                       level to another.

It is really exciting to see the Eiffel Tower pop into view.

It means that we are really here.

We tour Notre Dame Cathedral.

We like the stained glass window.

We are very intrigued by this statue - as you can imagine!

There must be a story here.

It is easy to see the Arc de Triomphe but another thing to get to it. Cars and buses don't stop for anyone and they drive fast. We take the underground tunnel to get there and have fun exploring this famous landmark.

We top off our day by taking an evening boat ride on the Seine. We love watching the people sitting and talking, dancing, eating their picnic dinners on the walls along the river.

Everyone claps when the Eiffel Tower lights go on and shriek when they start blinking!

The first thing we do this morning is go to this famous East Bank bookshop.

It's a free afternoon on our tour so we catch a cab to a very special place in Paris: General Lafayette's Tomb. It's located in a pretty park in a quiet part of the city.

We are on a mission.

We are bringing sprigs of lavender from Ellie's garden in Illinois and soil from Virginia and Indiana to place and sprinkle on the General's tombstone. You see, Lafayette asked his son to put soil from America on his grave when

he was buried as a sign of his love for America.

That's what we are doing in this picture.

Every July 4 a formal ceremony is held at Lafayette's grave to honor him.

On our last night in Paris, Baba joins us on a visit to a gelato store on

Rue Cler, just a block from our hotel. We have one of the prettiest and tastiest gelatos ever. It cheers us up.

We visit the Eiffel Tower with our group.

What a great time we've had.

  Arrivederci!

        Auf Wiedersehen!

                             Au Revoir!

"Lafayette, we are here."

We join Miles for a late afternoon lunch at one of his favorite restaurants. We order several crepes. We like the chocolate ones best.

We buy books; use the typewriter and play the piano.
